Playing in the yard is one of the the best parts about living at Gran’s house. She has a great big place to play for you and the dogs. Outside is her favorite place. Too bad it is 1000 degrees outside in Oklahoma right now. Luckily, we had a few cool days last week so that we could get outside and enjoy the yard. I’m definitely ready for fall.
When you have several puzzles, it is often hard to choose just the right one. When I snapped this picture, you were looking for the hippo. Unfortunately, the hippo was left on top of my car on one of our trips to Gran’s house during the move. He is on a great adventure somewhere.
I’ve mentioned your love of books before. Even though we have memorized many of the books around the house (seriously, we recited The Napping House by Audrey Wood the other night when you were having trouble going back to sleep), it makes me smile to see you grab a book and flip through the pages. You’ve got to
appreciate the little things.
Our morning routine is a little different while we’re staying with Gran. You love to watch Thomas the Train when you get up, so your dad sometimes brings your breakfast to bed. You eat breakfast and watch TV while we get ready. Sometimes, your dad even eats breakfast in bed with you!
You had a great time playing with the big kids at Landon’s birthday party. Mostly, you chased Hannah around hoping that she would stop for a minute to pay attention to you. Unfortunately, she was pretty fast and you couldn’t keep up.
Then, you discovered the vending machines. It was fun turning the knobs even if you didn’t get anything to come out. The party was ended with cake and ice cream, which you shared with your mom and dad. Such a sweet boy! And yes, that is a Flux Capacitor t-shirt. Long live the 80s.
Who would have thought that learning to use utensils would be so tough? It’s hard to imagine what people did before there were mini-forks and spoons. I don’t even want to think about chopsticks!
I love how wide you open your mouth right now for a tiny bite. We can’t even pretend to help out with this process because “Gray dude it!” is the first thing out of your mouth when anyone else grabs the fork. Independence is important…so stick with it, little one.
We’re back! The last two weeks have been taken over by packing and moving. We sold our house and didn’t have a new one to move in to…so we are currently shacked up with my mom (hi, mom!). I am very grateful to have a mom who is willing to let us invade her house with a screaming toddler and all his toys, a husband with a garage full of tools, and a daughter with high anxiety and a tendency to rearrange other people’s furniture when they’re out of town because it is out of balance. Let’s hope she doesn’t kick us out before we find somewhere else to live.
We have gotten to do a few fun things over the last two weeks – including watching fireworks. I was sure that Grayson would be scared, but he didn’t mind the show. His cousin, however, had a different opinion about fireworks. He was much happier inside with the dog and his mommy.
I have a friend…a friend who can do just about anything…and her name is Lizzy. Not only does she help manage a moving company, she teaches acting classes to kids and has now added party planner to her resume. Two weeks ago, she asked me to come take pictures of the baby shower she put together for Karmon & Austin. It was held at Kupcakz (71st & Mingo). She had Ron’s cater in burgers and Kupcakz made some amazing treats for the celebration. It was hard to take pictures instead of hanging out behind the counter to eat all of the delicious food.
This is Lizzy and her little one. She is fun, genuine, and super organized. If I ever have another baby, I hope she throws me a baby shower! Speaking of babies, there were lots of babies running around during the party. Lizzy set up a play area for them so that they would be less likely to have melt-downs during the event. Did I mention that she is smart?
Every detail was planned out, from the decorations to the games. This was a joint baby shower (for mom & dad) so the games couldn’t be too weird. No guessing what kind of candy bar is melted in the diaper. No blind taste test of baby food. Just good ol’ fashioned family fun. Lizzy planned some activities for the group to reflect back on the childhood of Karmon & Austin while they celebrated the life they’re about to bring into the world.
It was great to see family and friends there to support this next chapter for Karmon & Austin. Having a little one is hard work…it will be great to look back and see how much love surrounds this new life.
Congratulations, Karmon & Austin. The fun is just beginning!
You got your first haircut over the weekend. For the most part, it was fun. You got to sit in a police car, watch cartoons, and play with a singing duck! The only scary part was when she had to clean up the edges. Thank goodness that part didn’t last very long. You do look very handsome with your new ‘do.
Yep. You like your dad to read you books while you sit on the potty. We’ve been doing this for about a week now and tonight was the first night that you actually peed in the potty! Of course, it was by accident…but we still cheered like you had just finished first in the Olympic 400 meter dash. Gotta celebrate the small things because the small things are REALLY big when you’re a toddler and doing everything for the first time.
